Abstract
The importance of growing and cultivating resistant wheat crop varieties is to meet the demands of the growing population by minimizing the yield losses. Two leaf rust (LR) and stripe rust (YR) resistant introgression lines named as ILtri-I and ILtri-II (WL711NN/Ae. triuncialis acc pau3640//WL711NN) have been developed by crossing and backcrossing tetraploid non-progenitor of wheat Ae. triuncialis (UUCC) with LR and YR susceptible cultivar WL711(NN). To understand the nature and inheritance of gene(s) conferring resistance to LR and YR and mapping the genomic regions responsible for this resistance, both the introgression lines were crossed with WL711(NN) and F2 and F2:3 mapping populations were developed. In F2 generation both the mapping populations segregated into 3R: 1S ratio for indication single dominant resistant gene against LR and YR in both the introgression lines. F3 segregation ration of 1 homozygous resistant:2 segregating:1 homozygous susceptible for both populations confirmed the findings of single dominant resistant gene(s). Molecular mapping LR and YR resistant gene was done with 614 SSR markers of which one of the SSR marker Xwmc606 was found to be 11.2 cM from leaf rust resistant and 33.0 cM away from stripe rust resistant gene in mapping population derived from ILtri-II. Same SSR do not show any linkage with LR and YR resistant gene in mapping population derived from ILtri-I.
