CYSTO-PROSTATOCELE DUE TO PROSTATIC ABSCESS IN A DOG

Abstract
An eight year old intact male German shepherd dog was presented with the history of swelling on the left side of perineal region, with the clinical symptoms of anorexia, stranguria, tenesmus for the past one month. Clinical examination revealed a soft reducing mass on the left perineal region. Contrast radiography confirmed bladder herniation. A curvilinear incision was made over the herineated mass. The adhesions were noticed between urinary bladder and prostate. Prostate was found enlarged. The cytological studies of prostatic fluid revealed inflammatory cells with bacterial colonies of E.coli which confirmed it to be a prostatic abscess. The bladder was reduced and the hernial defect was closed with pre placed simple interrupted suture. The animal had an uneventful recovery.
