Abstract
An experiment entitled "Performance Study of China Aster [Callistephus
chinensis (L.) Nees] Varieties in Southern Rajasthan Agro-climatic Condition” was
conducted at Horticulture farm, Department of Horticulture, Rajasthan College of
Agriculture, MPUAT, Udaipur during the year 2018-19 to find out the best China
aster varieties under open field condition. The experiment was laid out in randomized
block design with eight varities replicated three times.
The variety Phule Ganesh-Violet was found best in terms of vegetative and
yield characteristics i.e. plant height (69.87 cm), plant spread (36.33 cm), spray length
(34.93 cm) and yield characteristics like flowers per plant (84.77), spray per plant
(12.60) and flowers per spray (6.73). Among the qualitative traits, maximum vase life
(8.53 days), shelf life (5.47 days) and flowering duration (55.40 days) were recorded
for variety Arka Archana.
The variety Phule Ganesh-violet was also found best variety as it gave highest
gross return (Rs. 293739.6) and net return (Rs. 203,769) as compared to other
varieties studied. On the basis of present investigation, it can be inferred that the
variety Phule Ganesh-violet was high yielding, hence that variety can be
recommended as best variety for commercial cultivation under open field condition in
Udaipur, Rajasthan.
