Abstract
The experiment entitled “Effect of Plant Growth Regulators and Chemicals on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Rough Lemon (Citrus jambhiriL.)” was carried out under hydroponic condition at laboratory of Department of Fruit Science, College of Horticulture and Forestry, CAU, Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh during the year 2019-20. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design with thirteen treatments and three replications. The seeds were soaked before sowing with different concentrations of GA3 (50, 100 and 150 ppm), NAA (50, 100 and 150 ppm), KNO3 (0.5%, 1.0% and 1.5%), Thiourea (0.5%, 1.0% and 1.5%) and control (seeds soaked with distilled water) for 12 hours. The study revealed that all the treatments significantly affected seed germination and seedling growth of rough lemon as compared to control. The seeds treated with GA3 150 ppm recorded earliest germination (10.33 days), highest percentage of germination (88.83%), maximum height of seedling (14.35 cm), girth of seedling stem (1.93 mm), length of root (8.57 cm), number of roots/seedling (10.44), number of leaves/seedling (3.66), fresh weight of shoot (0.348 g), dry weight of shoot (0.119 g), fresh weight of roots (0.109 g), dry weight of roots (0.039 g), Survival percentage (90.47%) and total chlorophyll content in leaves (3.50mg/g). The minimum values of all the parameters were generally manifested under treatment T13 (seeds soaked in distilled water). However, all treatments have not shown significant effect on accumulation of proline in the seedling leaves. Therefore, it can be concluded that the treatment T3 (seeds soaking in GA3 at 150 ppm) was found superior over rest of the treatments under study, which significantly recorded the desirable values of seed germination, seedling growth and survival of rough lemon seedling.
