Abstract
Looking to the importance of job satisfaction of teachers, the present study entitled ‘Study on job satisfaction of teachers of MPUAT, Udaipur’ was undertaken with the following specific objectives: 1. To study the personal attributes of teachers of MPUAT, Udaipur. 2. To determine level of job satisfaction of teachers of MPUAT, Udaipur. 3. To determine the motivational factors for improving job satisfaction. 4. To study factors affecting job satisfaction of teachers. 5. To study the relationship of personal attributes of teachers with their level of job satisfaction. 6. To list out the suggestion from teachers to enhance their job satisfaction. The present study was conducted in purposely selected state agriculture university MPUAT, Udaipur. A complete list of the in position faculty teachers was prepared for each Colleges, KVKs, ARSs, ARSSs and DFRS from the records available at University. From the list so prepared, Respondents were selected randomly. It was planned to have a sample of 160 teachers for this study. Data were collected through tailor made questionnaire. Thereafter, data were analyzed and results were interpreted as given below: The study discloses that out of 160 teachers most of them belonged to medium age group i.e. 42 – 57 years. The medium age group constitutes 85 (53.13%) of total teachers, 80.00 per cent were male teachers, most of the teachers 97.50 per cent were married, 50.63 per cent majority of the teachers were working as Professor, most of the * Ph.D. Research scholar, Department of Extension Education, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, MPUAT, Udaipur ** Professor, Department of Extension Education, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, MPUAT, Udaipur teachers 41.88 per cent having their salary between Rs. 82000 to Rs. 1, 94000, more than half 106 (66.25%) teachers were having medium service experience between 11years to 30 years, majority of teachers 154 were possessing Ph. D. degree, 56.30 per cent teachers belonged to the urban area and 85 (53.10%) teachers were living in nuclear family. The study explains that a large number i.e. 115 teachers were identified under medium level of job satisfaction that means 71.88 per cent teachers were moderately satisfied with their job in the university. The study discloses that among general determinants, first rank was given to the statement ‘opportunity to do the challenging job’, in administrative determinants of job satisfaction ‘Opportunity for professional growth’ was ranked first, among supportive determinants of job satisfaction ‘cooperation among technical & supportive staff’ was ranked first. The study exposes that among factor ‘opportunity of achievement’ the statement ‘I feel comfortable after completion of assigned task by superior’ was ranked first, the statement ‘I feel my job provides opportunities to develop my knowledge & skill’ was ranked first among ‘opportunity of initiatives’ factor. Among factor ‘recognition and reward’ the statement ‘an appreciation from colleagues & technical staff’ was ranked first, among motivational factor ‘sense of responsibility’ that the statement ‘as per post I have to maintain dignity & job responsibility’ got rank first. Motivational factor ‘Work itself’ the statement ‘I can give better results if better facilities provided’ got rank first. The study indicates that among factor adequacy of facility, ‘salary is in accordance with the responsibility of job’ was ranked first. Among fringe benefits ‘needs to provide LTC was ranked first and from other factors of adequacy of facility first rank was assigned to ‘assigned work would not be completed in time due to lack of subordinate staff’. Among extent of organizational clarity ‘a reasonable & timely promotion policy for employees’ was ranked first. From job security and advancement ‘my job provides me: ‘economic security’ was ranked first, among social status attached to the job the statement officials of line department pays due respect as per my job was ranked first and ‘my immediate officer gives clear instruction at the time of assignment of tasks help me in successful completion of task’ got was ranked first among the factors of advisory support. The data of the study explains that age was found negatively significant correlated, gender was significantly and positively correlated, type of family was correlated negatively significant with level of job satisfaction of teachers and other independent variables i.e. marital status, designation, salary, service experience, education qualification and background of the teachers was found to be non significant with their job satisfaction. The study revealed that the suggestion ‘opportunity of recognition and rewards for every employee of the university’ was given by majority i.e. 31 (19.37%) teachers and it was ranked first. The statement ‘Timely availability of pension fund for retired faculty members’ was given by 28 (17.50%) teachers and was ranked second.
