Abstract
The study was undertaken during kharif 2018 at ARS Gangavati, with fifty pollen parents having diverse genetic backgrounds, five female lines and eighty-four experimental hybrids derived from crosses between the CMS lines and pollen parents. The investigation was done with the aim of identifying fully restorers, partial restorers, partial maintainers and fully maintainers in parental lines, estimation of heterosis in fully fertile hybrids, molecular analysis of rice genotypes for identification of restorer genes, and assessing quality parameters in selected parental lines. Among 84 F1 hybrids 13 hybrids were completely fertile and 5 were completely sterile. The remaining 66 hybrids expressed varying degrees of fertility (both pollen and spikelet). Forty-nine of them were partial maintainers and the remaining seventeen were partial restorers (based on spikelet fertility). The frequencies of fully maintainer, partial maintainer, partial restorer, and fully restorer male lines based on pollen fertility were 5.95 %, 59.50 %, 19.04 %, 15.47 % respectively, and based on spikelet fertility were 5.95 %, 58.32 %, 20.23 %, 15.47 % respectively. Among fully fertile hybrids, 9A/SC5 recorded better mean for filled spikelets per panicle, total spikelet number per panicle, and yield per plant and none of the cross combination recorded significant standard heterosis for all the traits simultaneously. Out of seven SSR markers used to identify fertility restoration genes (Rf1 and Rf2, Rf3, Rf4) four markers exhibited a P-value of less than 0.05 which indicates significant association between marker and the trait. Two markers RM1 and RM3233 are linked to Rf3 gene which is located on chromosome 1 and other two markers RM171 and RM1108 recorded significant association with Rf4 gene which is present on chromosome 10. Parental genotypes were analysed for quality parameters and thirteen genotypes were having MS type of grain. Eight, twenty three, and twenty one genotypes were having medium GC, low to medium GT and intermediate AC respectively
