Abstract
Survival modelling in Pig unit of Post Graduate Research Institute in Animal Sciences, Kattupakkam was carried out with the objectives to model the survivability of pigs over time and to identify the deterministic factors of survivability among pigs. Data over 31 years were taken to analyse the effect of genetic group, sex, period, birth weight, parity of dam, litter size at birth, season of birth, season of death, weaning weight and weaning age on pig mortality under three age groups categorized as pre-weaning, post-weaning and adult age. Survivability assessed by two survival parameters, mortality and time to event. For analyzing the significance of various factors on mortality chi-square test of independence was performed and to quantify factors and model the mortality binary logistic regression was performed. Survival probabilities of each category and mean survival time were obtained by using life table estimate and Kaplan-Meier method. Hazard function with its covariates effect was analysed by using Cox-proportional hazard model.
