Abstract
This study was carried out on vaginal secretions/aspirates of infertile (acyclic
and endometritic) crossbred cows from field and healthy cyclic as well as pregnant
crossbred cows of LRS, AAU, Anand with the objectives (i) to identify the vaginal
microorganisms based on routine cultural and culture-independent (metagenomics)
methods, (ii) to monitor plasma progesterone, estrogen, total protein, total cholesterol,
calcium and inorganic phosphorus profile, and (iii) to find out the association of
vaginal metabiota with circulatory levels of gonadal steroids, if any. The work was
carried out on total 36 crossbred cows covering six each regular cyclic (proestrus,
estrus, metestrus, diestrus), acyclic, endometritic and 3, 6 and 9 months pregnant
animals.
