Abstract
Agriculture alone as a sustainable livelihood option difficult for the rural people.
Increasing cost of agriculture inputs, erratic weather conditions, poor access to
technology and lack of transport & storage facility, and other macro-level factors, traps
the marginal farmers into a vicious cycle of poverty, drudgery, and poor nourishment.
Farmers also don’t have access to institutional credit facility for their day to day needs
and take a loan from local moneylender on high interest rates. Farmers’ engagement in
organized and collectivized agriculture largely remains a far-fetched dream. Hence, the
need for organizing and collective engagement of farmers into a business model to
improve livelihoods.
