Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Modeling of Water Movement under Organic and InorganicConditions in a Polyhouse” was carried out on tomato Hybrid Vijetain a polyhouse at Experimental Farm of SKUAST-Kashmir, Shalimar during Kharifseason of 2015. The experiment was carried out with three treatments viz., T1 (Chemical fertilizer as per recommended dose), T2 (Vermicompost) and T3 (FYM) as per systematic approach. The observations on various plant parameters were recorded by selecting seven randomly selected plants. Among all the treatments T1 (Chemical fertilizer) recorded highest plant height, canopy spread, LAI, fruit length, fruit diameter, yield per plant and crop yield viz., 92.6 cm, 55.31cm, 1.52m2 m-2, 5.99cm, 5.74cm, 6.32 kg and 27.91kg ha-1followed byT2 (Vermicompost) viz., 78.60cm, 45.27cm, 1.36m2 m-2, 5.26cm, 5.26cm, 5.78kg and 22.12kg ha-1 and T3 (FYM)viz., 72.84cm, 45.19cm, 1.17m2 m-2, 4.60cm, 4.41cm, 5.00 kg and 19.96 kg ha-1 respectively. For root depth T1 (Chemical fertilizer) recorded highest value of 41.21cm followed by T2 (Vermicompost) viz., 39.83 cm which was statistically at par with T3 (FYM) of 39.01cm. The Potential Evapotranspiration (PET) calculator software was used to determine the potential evapotranspiration inside the polyhouse which was multiplied with crop coefficient (Kc) to calculate crop evapotranspiration (ETc).The maximum value of crop evapotranspiration was recorded on 24th July (205th Julian day) as 5.4 mm day-1. The total water requirement inside polyhouse at different stagesof growth to be 510.2 mm with maximum consumption of water 276.9 mm during mid season stage. Modeling of water movement inside the polyhouse requires description of soil water content within the soil profile. The AquaCrop model was used to investigate the soil water content at a depth of 25cm in the soil profile which emphasis the water movement as active root zone is in this depth. Maximum movement of water was seen from the month of July to October. In these months temperature increased tremendously and the crop have most active period for development of plant and formation of fruits demanding more water requirement inside the polyhouse.
