COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF MICROSCOPIC AGGLUTINATION TEST AND IgM ELISA IN THE SERODIAGNOSIS OF LEPTOSPIROSIS

Abstract
Microscopic agglutination test (MAT) and IgM enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) are the two tests currently employed in the serological diagnosis of leptospirosis. Under certain instances the samples positive by IgM ELISA in other laboratories were found to be negative in our laboratory by MAT and vice-versa. This prompted us to conduct a comparative study. The IgM ELISA was compared with the standard MAT as a method for detecting antibodies in humans against pathogenic Leptospira interrogans serovars.
