Abstract
A pot experiment was conducted from September 2015 to January 2016 at College of Agricultural engineering instructional farm, Raichur (Karnataka state) with a view to study the crop evapotranspiration and crop coefficient (Kc) values for the groundnut crop under Raichur Agro-climatic conditions. The comparison was made in terms of growth, yield and quality parameters between different stress levels of soil moisture stress. There are six treatments of moisture stress levels namely, 100 % available moisture holding capacity (T1), 90 % available moisture holding capacity (T2), 80 % available moisture holding capacity (T3), 70 % available moisture holding capacity (T4), 60 % available moisture holding capacity (T5) and 50 % available moisture holding capacity (T6). The net crop water requirement (ETc) to groundnut crop maintained with soil moisture at a level 10 percent (T2) depleted than at its soil field capacity throughout the crop period (120 days) at different crop growth stages would be 0.8 mm d-1 (initial stage), 1.94 mm d-1 (developmental stage), 2.27 mm d-1 (mid stage) and 1.56 mm d-1 (late stage) measured on daily basis. The Significant differences were observed in plant height, number of leaves and branches, leaf area index and yield, the maximum was found in 10 per cent depletion of soil moisture level (T2) and minimum was found in 50 per cent depletion of soil moisture level (T6). The crop coefficient (Kc) values, evaluated under semi arid agro climatic condition of Raichur district maintained with 10 per cent depletion of soil moisture level throughout the season at different crop growth stages would be 0.44 (initial stage), 0.78 (developmental stage), 0.98 (mid stage) and 0.60 (late stages) found to be in concurrence with suggested (Kc) values for the same crop by the FAO. The general trend considering the different parameters tested suggests that 10 per cent depletion of soil moisture level achieve appropriate Kc values for the groundnut crop under semi arid agro climatic condition of Raichur district.
