EVALUATION OF HYDROLOGIC RESPONSE OF FLAT LAND WATERSHED UNDER SEMI-ARID CLIMATIC CONDITIONS

The study was undertaken in Tengli (709.25 ha) micro-watershed (Longitude of 771' and 7713'1''E and Latitude 1724'3'' and 1726'8'' N) situated under semi-arid agro-climatic conditions with the objective of assessment of hydrological responses of flat land (3-5 % slope) topography (bifurcation ratio (2.75), which receives an average annual rainfall of 772.60 mm. The estimated runoff using Decision Supportive System based on SCS-CN method was 337.68 mm (44.21 % of annual rainfall). Out of total watershed area, agriculture land use with 535.97 ha (75.57 %), produced minimum runoff of 180.03 mm (23.21 %) as compared to other land use system. The watershed with its shape (farm factor 0.86) and size found to respond with moderate time to peak (1.14 h) and time of concentration of (13.58 h) in response to recurring rainfall events. The estimated soil loss was moderate (1.14 t ha-1 yr-1) as compared to similar micro watershed. The graded bunding system (0.75 m2) with 200 m length ha-1 and water spread area of 1.5 m2 has been proposed to secure 30 mm depth of runoff per maximum rainfall event (60 mmh-1 intensity). The runoff excess of 755 m3ha-1 is expected and can be stored through appropriate size of farm pond. Key words- Decision Supportive System, hydrological responses, runoff and semi-arid
