Abstract
The present research study was conducted in Raichur district of Karnataka during
the year 2015-16. The Raichur district was purposively selected because of convenience
and familiarity of the researcher with the study area. Based on the criteria of highest crop
sown area, Raichur, Lingasugur and Manvi taluks were selected, from each taluk 2 hoblis
were selected, from each hobli one village was selected based on highest crop sown area,
from each village 20 farmwomen respondents were selected which constituted 10 small
farmwomen and 10 marginal farmwomen on random basis, thus the total sample
constitutes 120 respondents.
The results showed that nearly half (48.33 %) of the farmwomen belonged to
middle age group, majority (69.16 %) were illiterate, nearly one third (29.16 %) had 3.1
to 4 acres of land holding, in case of crop plan, nearly one third (25.83 %) of the
farmwomen participated actively in decision making, regarding land preparation
activities, more than half (54.16 %) participated passively in decision making, in case of
selection of seed 45.00 per cent were engaged passively in decision making, one third
(30.83 %) were engaged actively in decision making with respect to sowing activity, only
15.00 per cent actively participated in decision making in case of fertilizer application,
with respect to plant protection, only 13.33 per cent actively participated in decision
making, over one third (32.50 %) actively participated in decision making with respect to
irrigation and intercultivation, more than half (56.66 %) actively participated in decision
making with respect to labour management, regarding harvesting operations, nearly one
third (29.16 %) were engaged actively in decision making and only 17.50 per cent were
actively participated in decision making in case of marketing.
