Abstract
The present study was carried out in three districts of North-Eastern region of
Karnataka state during 2017-18. Data was collected from a sample of 180 redgram growers
from Bidar, Kalaburgi and Yadgir districts, using pre-tested interview schedule through
personal interview method. The result revealed that, 45 per cent of the redgram growers
had medium level of management efficiency followed by high (33.89 %) and low
(21.11 %). With respect to effectiveness of extension services, 43.89 per cent of the
redgram growers had medium level of effectiveness i.e. moderately effective followed by
high effectiveness (33.89%), less effectiveness (22.22%) of extension services which is
extended by the extension agency to the redgram growers in the region. The variables:
family size, land holding, material possession, social participation, innovativeness,
market orientation, education, annual income, mass media participation, information
seeking behaviour, cosmopoliteness, economic motivation, scientific orientation,
achievement motivation, credit orientation and leadership ability showed significant
relationship with management efficiency. Similarly, the variables: land holding, risk
orientation, innovativeness, education, family size, annual income, mass media
participation, information seeking behavior, cosmopoliteness, economic motivation,
scientific orientation, achievement motivation, credit orientation and leadership ability
showed significant relationship with effectiveness of extension service. High cost of
production, scarcity of labour, fluctuation in prices and non-availability of planting
material were the major constraints faced by redgram growers in the region. Whereas
high Minimum Support Price for redgram, reduction in the cost of inputs and more of
Government subsidies were major suggestions expressed by the redgram growers. This
calls for policy decision at the Apex level.
