Abstract
PCR. Further the samples
were subjected to cultural identification and isolation of bacterial organisms followed by in-vitro antibiotic
sensitivity test using antibiotic discs like amoxicillin/ sulbactam, ceftriaxone, cefovacin, amoxicillin/
clavulanic acid and gentamicin. In this study, major organism found among the 50 samples was Escherichia
coli. Antibiogram studies revealed that the combination of amoxicillin/ sulbactam (100 per cent) was the most
sensitive drug followed by gentamicin (85.8 per cent), cefovacin (62 per cent), ceftriaxone (24 per cent) and
amoxicillin/ clavulanic acid (4 per cent). It was concluded that amoxicillin/ sulbactam is effective in treating
secondary bacterial infection of Parvo viral gastroenteritis in dogs.
