Abstract
The study was conducted to study the efficacies of various combinations of Ovsynch protocol on the conception rate in the repeat breeder cows. A total number of 80 repeat breeder cows were randomly and equally divided into four experimental groups viz., Group I to III (Treatment groups) and Group IV (Control group). Cows of group I were treated with Ovsynch protocol. The treatment procedures for group I were followed for groups II and III. Additionally, the group II cows were given 10 μg of GnRH (3rd GnRH) 7 days after timed AI and the group III cows were administered with 12,00,000 IU of Vitamin A injection during the commencement (d 0) of the Ovsynch treatment. Group IV cows (control) were observed for estrus and artificial insemination was done during the observed estrus. Cows belonging to groups I to III were bred by TAI at 16-18 hours after the 2nd GnRH injection of Ovsynch protocol (d 10) and at observed estrus in group IV. Those cows which failed to conceive were subjected to artificial insemination in the subsequent estrus. the percentages of first service, second service and overall conception rates observed in this study were 30.00, 20.00 and 50.00 in group I; 60.00, 20.00 and 80.00 in group II; 50.00, 30.00 and 80.00 in group III; and 10.00, 20.00 and 30.00 per cent in group IV, respectively. From the study it is concluded that Ovsynch+ post AI GnRH injection or vitamin A injection along with Ovsynch protocol were found to be the best protocols to augment fertility in repeat breeder cows under field condition
