Abstract
The synchronization programme was conducted in eight backward blocks of Krishnagiri district which
comprises of 153 villages. After screening, rectal and Colour Doppler Ultrasound examinations were made
to select the buffaloes for synchronization programme. More than 5000 farmers were sensitized through 26
numbers of farmers’ sensitization and awareness meets which created knowledge about the recent technologies
adopted to improve fertility in buffaloes at field level. Farmers have gained knowledge about the possibilities
of upgradation of buffaloes using pure bred Murrah frozen semen and chances of getting improved buffalo
breed with increased milk production in future. All the Veterinary Assistant Surgeons in this scheme were given
hands on training on handling and application of portable colour Doppler ultrasound scanner, synchronization
protocol using Intra vaginal progesterone sponges and alleviation of infertility problems with the recent
technologies etc. Apart from these, good conception rate was achieved as 75.87 per cent and most of the
infertility problems were alleviated in 1003 buffaloes .The overall economic gain/benefit achieved from 1003
synchronized buffaloes were Rs. 2,54,03,500 which was higher than the expected economic gain at the time of
project formulation as Rs.1,39,79,400 and the routine economic gain received from the buffaloes were lower
than the above as Rs 15,66,000. The NET overall economic gain/benefit achieved from 1003 synchronized
buffaloes were Rs. 2,38,37,500, which were also higher than the routine and expected gain. This project could
have salvaged at least 5-10 per cent of buffaloes from going to slaughter as unproductive.
