Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Standardization of Time and Method of Propagation in Bael (Aeglemarmelos L.) Under Jammu Sub-Tropics”was carried out in the year 2018-19, at the Research Farm, Division of Fruit Science, FoAChatha, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu.Four differentmethods of buddingviz. Patch budding, Chip budding, T-budding and Inverted T-budding using NB-9 as scion were tried to ascertain the best method of budding in bael. All the four methods of budding were performed at different intervals of time i.e. 15th July, 30th July, 15th August and 30th August. Among various methods of budding, significantly higher percent bud intake(70.11 %), total leaf area (21.10cm2), chlorophyll content of leaves (32.71), shoot length (25.49cm), days taken to bud sprouting(20.54 days), total number of leaves(15.22) were recorded in patch budding as compared to other methods of budding. The comparison of different dates of budding revealed that budding done on 30th July showed significantly higher total number of leaves (15.22), maximum percent bud in-take (63.83 %), days taken to bud sprouting (19.49 days),shoot length (27.45cm), chlorophyll content of leaves (33.05), total leaf area (22.22 cm2). The interaction between method and time of budding showed that patch budding done on 30th July resulted in significantly higher shoot length (30.12cm), per cent bud intake (80.66 %), chlorophyll content of leaves (41.07), total leaf area (25.30cm2),total number of leaves (18.57), days taken to bud sprouting (16.80 days). From the present study,it can be concluded that patch budding performed on 30th Julyis the most appropriate method and time of propagation in bael (Aegle marmelos L.) under sub-tropical conditions of Jammu.
