Abstract
The present research work entitled “Effect of plant growth regulators on fruit retention, fruit drop, yield and physico-chemical composition of mango (MangiferaindicaL.) cv. Dashehari.”was conducted at the instructional Farm, Dept. of Horticulture, College of Agriculture, IGKV, Raipur (C.G.) during the year 2017-18 by using Randomized Block Design with three replications. The mango plant cv. Dashehari were sprayed with three concentrations of NAA(Naphthalene acetic acid)i.e., 15, 25 and 35 ppm, three concentrations of GA3(Gibberelic acid)i.e. 15, 25 and 35 ppm and three concentrations of 2, 4-D (2, 4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid)i.e. 15, 25 and 35 ppm at pea and marble stage of mango fruit development. The total number of fruits significantly enhanced by all the treatments as compared with control.Foliar application of 35 ppm GA3 at pea and marble stage of mango fruit development, significantlyenhanced the fruit retention percentage (15.23 %), reduced the fruit drop percentage (84.77 %) and recorded maximum number of fruits (880.49) and total yield (135.46 kg/ plant). Physical characters offruit viz.,Fruit Length (11.65 cm) and width of fruits (6.82 cm), average fruit weight (177.84 g), volume (173.63 g) and pulp weight (130.41 g) were also enhanced with the application of 35 ppm GA3.While, weight of stone (25.39 g) and weight of peel (19.02 g) were reduced with the spray of 35 ppmNAA(Naphthalene acetic acid)” and 25 ppm foliar application of 2, 4-D (2, 4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid). Qualitative characters of mango fruit like ascorbic acid (57.63 mg/100g) and TSS (21.61%)enhanced with the application of 35 ppm NAA (Naphthalene acetic acid) and 35 ppm 2,4-D (2, 4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid)respectively. While, reducing sugar (5.71%), non-reducing sugar (14.26 %) and total sugar (19.97 %) were increased with 35 ppm concentration of 2, 4-D (2, 4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid). Acidity percentage of mango (0.17 %) was recorded minimum under the foliar application of 2, 4- D at 35 ppm concentration. The observations concluded that among the various concentrations of plant growth regulators; the best results were recorded with 35 ppm concentration of NAA(Naphthalene acetic acid), 35 ppm concentration of GA3(Gibberelic acid) and 35 ppm concentration of 2, 4-D (2, 4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid), which significantly enhanced the yield and physico-chemical composition of mango fruits.
