Abstract
The present investigations on bioassay, morphological effects and estimation of esterase activity in the Spodoptera litura (Fab.) was carried out in the Department of Agricultural Entomology, College of Agriculture and Main Agricultural Research Station, Raichur, during 2011-13. The LC50values of lufenuron for F1 and F6 generation at 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84 and 96 hours after treatment was 12.140, 3.740, 1.340, 0.020, 0.011, 0.001, 0.002, 0.004 ppm and 4.56, 1.76, 0.69, 0.01, 0.008, 0.002, 0.002, 0.003 respectively. The per cent mortality and deformity of S.litura larvae at different concentrations viz; 54.00, 17.00, 4.25, 1.06, 0.26 and 0.06 ppm was studied, the per cent mortality and deformity was highest in 54.00 ppm at all the hours of treatment. Susceptibility index was calculated for the F1 and F6 generations of the laboratory populations. Susceptibility index from 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84 and 96 HAT in F1 and F6 generations was 2.66, 2.13, 1.94, 2.00, 1.38, 0.50, 1.00 and 1.33 respectively. The effect of lufenuron on larval duration and pupal duration was extended in all the concentrations, larval weight and pupal weight were drastically reduced at higher concentrations. The per cent mortality of larvae and pupae was high in all the concentrations compared to control. Fecundity, per cent hatchability was reduced at higher concentrations. Growth and developmental rate of larvae was affected in the higher concentrations. The carboxylesterase activity of S. litura when exposed to various concentrations of lufenuron viz., 54, 17, 4.25, 1.06, 0.26, and 0.06 ppm on different instar and pupae showed that the esterase activity was high in all six instars of S. litura while it was low in pupae at 54 ppm. .
