Abstract
Studies were undertaken at Main Agriculture Research Station (MARS), Raichur district, Karnataka during 2012-13. Survey and management of major insect pests of sweet orange. The random survey made in different sweet orange growing areas of Raichur taluk, viz.,Yapaldinni, Sirvar, Pallavaldoddi, Appandoddi, and Yergera. Study revealed three major insect pests and one mite pests. Maximum thrips population was observed at Palavaldoddi, Appandoddi and Yergera on leaf, flower and fruits, respectively and this may be due to availability of new foliage, flower and fruits coupled with the favourable weather parameters. The incidence of mites on leaf and fruits was maximum at Yapaldinni and Yergera. Leaf miner activity was high at Appandoddi while lemon butterfly maximum at Yergera. The number of fruits damaged by FSM was maximum at Yapaldinni. A study on the seasonal incidence was done by selecting a fixed plot survey; number of leaf miner per shoot was maximum during 46th standard week, maximum leaf damage by lemon butterfly noticed during 32nd standard week with maximum parasitisation by Apanteles angaleti on citrus butterfly. Maximum fruit damage by FSM was noticed during 12th standard week. Maximum thrips population was recorded during 11th standard week and mite population was recorded maximum during 13th standard week. Simple correlation studies showed that increase in relative humidity favoured the multiplication of leaf miner and increase in temperature favoured the multiplication of thrips and mites population. Imidacloprid and Oxydemeton methyl recorded 89.04, 82.10 per cent reduction of aphid population over control and these were significantly superior over rest of the chemical treatments. Imidacloprid also recorded 82.54 per cent followed by fipronil 75.67 per cent against thrips respectively. Flubendiamide recorded 84.03 per cent followed by Spinosad 68.71 per cent protection against active mines respectively.
