Abstract
The objective of this study was to determine the
specific capacity, optimal diameter and optimal cropping
pattern for dug wells.
To achieve this objective, the study area from
Ahmednagar district was selected and pumping tests were
conducted on dug wells located in the study area. The tests
were conducted in premonsoon and postmonsoon.
The aquifer parameters such as Transmissivity [T] 3 and specific yield CS] were calculated. The value 86 m /day
of T and 0.157 for "&' was observed for the study area. An The Optimal diameter for dug wells in the study
area was decided on the basis of well performance
characteristics and benefit cost ratio of the wells. Optimal
diameter calculated was ranging between 5 and 6m.
In order to find best economical cropping pattern
twelve crops were selected which were grown most in the study
area. The solutions were obtained with food requirements and
without food requirements. The net profit was calculated for
average market prices. The land allocations to various crop
activities were worked by using linear programming model. The
optimal cropping plan envisages the crops such as sugarcane,
sorghum [K], redgram groundnut [K] in rainy season, sugarcane,
gram, wheat and sorghum [R] in winter and sugarcane and
groundnut in summer.
average specific capacity of wells was found to be 124 Lpm/m.
