Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Effect of plant growth promoters on growth, flowering and yield of daisy (Aster amellus L.) cv. Purple Multi Petal” was carried out at the College of Horticulture Rajendranagar, Sri Konda Laxman Telangana State Horticultural University, Hyderabad during September to December 2018. The experiment was laid out by adopting Randomized Block Design with thirteen treatments in three replications. The treatments were comprised of three concentrations of Gibberellic acid (150, 250 and 350 ppm), Salicylic acid (100, 200 and 300 ppm), Naphthalene acetic acid (50, 100 and 150 ppm), Isabion (2 , 4 , 6 ml/L) and Control (water spray). The plant growth promoters were sprayed two times viz., 20 and 40 DAP. Among the growth promoters the plants sprayed, GA3 350 ppm showed significant effect on growth parameters at 30, 60 and 90 DAP and recorded maximum plant height (32.84, 59.70 and 78.60 cm), plant spread in both E-W (17.03, 29.80 and 34.11 cm) and NS (18.05, 28.09 and 31.61cm) directions, number of leaves (25.44, 43.86, 75.00). Control recorded lowest plant height (20.14, 44.64 and 61.89 cm), plant spread in both E-W (12.17, 23.99 and 27.74 cm) and N-S (11.37, 21.69 and 25.28 cm) directions, number of leaves (15.57, 32.60 and 63.66). Among flowering attributes GA3 350 ppm recorded minimum number of days taken for flower initiation (66.33), number of days taken for 50 per cent flowering (79.33), number of flowers per plant (290.67), number of flowers per spike (176.60), number of flower spikes per plant (4.36), size of the flower (2.92 cm), length of the flower spike (67.67 cm), flower weight (0.29 g), weight of flower spike (69.34 g), weight of ten flowers (2.98 g), flower longevity on plant (17.80 days), spike yield per plot (72.33), spike yield per hectare (4.81 lakhs/ ha). Lowest results were recorded in control, days taken for flower initiation (79.33), number of days taken for 50 per cent flowering (93.33), number of flowers per plant (183.78), number of flowers per spike (101.53), number of flower spikes per plant (2.26), size of the flower (2.37 cm), length of the flower spike (43.31 cm), flower weight (0.21 g), weight of flower spike (54.29 g), weight of ten flowers (2.14 g), flower longevity on plants (13.06 days), spike yield per plot (43.66), spike yield per hectare (2.90 lakhs/ha). Salicylic acid 300 ppm recorded maximum vase life (12.66 days) whereas the lowest vase life was recorded in control (8.33 days). It can be concluded from the present study, that GA3 350 ppm has synergistic effect and resulted in higher yield and net returns compared to other treatments applied on daisy cv. ‘Purple Multi Petal’. The treatment GA3 350 ppm recorded maximum spike yield (4.81 lakhs/ha) followed by GA3 250 ppm (4.37 lakhs/ha) and the longest vase life was recorded in Salicylic acid 300 pm (12.66 days). The highest benefit cost ratio (3.76) was recorded in GA3 350 ppm followed by GA3 250 ppm (3.59) and lowest was registered in control (2.74).
