Abstract
Dairy farming is acting as one of the livelihood options for rural households.
Dairy assets are the important liquidating sources during emergencies such as health,
marriage etc. Increasing population, urbanization and changing consumption pattern,
increased the demand for milk and milk products and it has profound impact on
smallholder dairy production system. In response to that, the smallholder dairy has
been undergoing the process of intensiļ¬cation in last two decades. As part of
intensiļ¬cation, crop residue based feeding system is slowly being replaced With fodder
based feeding system. This necessitated to analyse the fodder innovations among
smallholder dairy farmers in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu.
