Abstract
A field experiment was conducted during kharif season, 2018 at Instructional Cum Research Farm, Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur (Chhattisgarh) to evaluate the effect of urea briquette and different duration of rice varieties on nitrogen use efficiency (NUE). The experiment was carried out in split plot design with 3 replications. The experiment involved three varieties Poornima (Early duration), Rajeshwari (medium duration) and Swarna (long duration) and four fertilizer N application modes as T1 (N100: P60: K40 (N through Urea briquette)), T2 (N100: P60: K40 (80% N through briquette urea + 20% N through urea at panicle initiation stage)), T3 (N100: P60: K40 (N though urea)) and T4 (N0: P60: K40 (Control for N)). The treatments constituted with 12 combinations which replicated thrice. Result revealed that response of applied N through briquette urea (100%) to rice has given maximum yield in terms of (kg/kg fertilizer N applied) followed by 80 % briquetted urea + 20 % plain urea and 100 % plain urea, Swarna variety responded maximum (23.94 kg grain/kg fertilizer N applied) followed by Rajeshwari variety (21.41 kg grain/kg fertilizer N applied) and Poornima variety (20.20 kg grain/kg fertilizer N applied). Applied N through briquette (100%) to rice has given maximum (58.27%) Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) followed by 80 % briquetted urea + 20 % plain urea (56.05 %) and 100 % plain urea (34.95 %). Swarna variety showed maximum NUE (53.74 % ) followed by Rajeshwari variety (51.38%) and Poornima variety (44.13 %).Yield attributing characters like effective tillers and number of filled grains per panicle along with nutrients uptake were identical with that of grain yields recorded in this study.
