Abstract
A fiielld iinvesttiigattiion was carriied outt duriing rabii 2018-19 on caulliifllower
(Brassiica olleracea var.. bottryttiis) att tthe experiimenttall farm of Departtmentt of Soiill
Sciience,, COA,, CSK HPKV,, Pallampur compriisiing of ttwellve ttreattmentts replliicatted
tthriice iin randomiized bllock desiign tto evalluatte tthe effiicacy of four sources of boron
(borax,, boriic aciid,, boron mettallosatte and boron callciium mettallosatte) wiitth ttwo metthods
of applliicattiion (soiill or folliiar).. Allll tthese combiinattiions receiived recommended dose of
ferttiilliizers and FYM @ 20 tt ha--1 uniiformlly exceptt farmers‟ practtiice where FYM @ 25
tt ha--1 was applliied allong wiitth 50 per centt of recommended dose of ferttiilliizers.. Soiill
applliicattiion of boron @ 2 kg ha--1 tthrough borax and tthree folliiar llevells att hallf (0..017
%),, recommended (0..034 %) and 1..5 ttiimes of recommended dose (0..051 %) wiitth
tthree boron sources viiz.. boriic aciid,, boron mettallosatte and boron callciium mettallosatte
were ttestted.. The folliiar feediing of boron was done att 45 and 65 days aftter
ttranspllanttiing (DAT).. The growtth parametters,, yiielld attttriibuttes and yiielld,, qualliitty,,
nuttriientt upttake and soiill properttiies were siigniifiicanttlly affectted by diifferentt boron
ttreattmentts.. The maxiimum curd yiielld (220..9 q ha--1) was recorded iin tthe ttreattmentt
where folliiar applliicattiion of boron was done att 1..5 ttiimes of tthe recommended dose
tthrough boron callciium mettallosatte whiich was 32..8 per centt hiigher tthan tthe ttreattmentt
receiiviing onlly recommended dose of ferttiilliizers.. The boron and miicronuttriientt cattiions
upttake by curd and lleaf were allso enhanced when boron was applliied and maxiimum
upttake was recorded wiitth 0..051 per centt tthrough boron callciium mettallosatte.. Boron
ttreattmentts had non siigniifiicantt effectt on soiill pH and organiic carbon conttentt,, however,,
a siigniifiicantt effectt was recorded iin avaiillablle N,, P,, K and B aftter harvestt.. Hiigher nett
retturns were regiisttered when folliiar applliicattiion of boron was done att 0..051 per centt
tthrough boron callciium mettallosatte whereas,, hiigher vallue of B::C was recorded iin tthe
ttreattmentt receiiviing boron att tthe same ratte butt tthrough boriic aciid.. Though boriic aciid
regiisttered hiigher B::C due tto llow costt butt hiigher retturns were obttaiined iin case of
folliiar spray of boron callciium mettallosatte whiich miightt be due tto betttter absorpttiion and
ttransporttattiion of nuttriientts..
