Abstract
In India, groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is an important oilseed crop.
There is a wide gap between demand and supply of edible oils. Major emphasis
of groundhut breeding programme has been on improving productivity in terms
of seed yield, oil content and protein content. Success of any breeding
programme depends on the efficiency of selection of those characters, which
have a maximum degree of positive influence on the other traits of interest and
on exploitation of diverse ge11otypes to use in hybrid breeding programme.
