Abstract
The present investigation was undertaken to study “Physiological and genetic bases of yield variations in Dolichos bean (Lablab purpureus L.) genotypes”. The material of the present study consisted of nine genotypes of Dolichos bean viz. 2018/DOLP VAR-1, 2018/DOLP VAR-2, 2018/DOLP VAR-3, 2018/DOLP VAR-4, 2018/DOLP VAR-5, 2018/DOLP VAR-6, 2018/DOLP VAR-7, 2018/DOLP VAR-9 including one check variety BDB-2. The test genotypes were evaluated at AICRP on Vegetable Crops, Horticultural Research Station, OUAT, Bhubaneswar. The trial was laid out in randomized block design with three replications. Observations were recorded on yield and yield attributing traits, physiological parameters and biochemical traits. The results of the present investigation indicated significant variation among the test genotypes for all the characters under study. High GCV was observed in case of vine length (24.19), number of branches per plant (51.73), pod length (32.48), pod breadth and (28.33), pod weight (40.71), number of pods per plant(31.75), 100 seed weight (33.74), harvest index (24.10), crop growth rate(20.05), net assimilation rate (23.4), carbohydrate content(21.05),seed protein(39.38),pod yield per plant(45.49).Characters like vine length, number of branches per plant, pod length, pod breadth, number of pods per plant, 100 seed weight, harvest index, crop growth rate, net assimilation rate, carbohydrate content, seed protein, pod yield per plant and plot yield exhibited high GCV coupled with high heritability and genetic advance. Pod yield exhibited positive correlation with pod length, pod weight, number of seeds per pod,100 seed weight and harvest index. The growth parameters such as LAI, RGR, NAR and CGR are highly positively correlated with pod yield of Dolichos bean. Among the genotypes highest value of these parameters along with high chlorophyll content and carbohydrate content was recorded in the genotype 2018/DOLP VAR-7. The highest seed protein (32.6%) was also noted in this genotype which was 25.3 % higher than the local check BDB-2. The genotype 2018/DOLP VAR-7 recorded maximum pod yield (101.66 q/ha) among all the genotypes which increased to the tune of 33.23 % over the check variety BDB-2.
