Abstract
Investigation on “Management of major predators of lac insect, Kerria lacca (Kerr) in Southern Rajasthan” was carried out in the Department of Entomology, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, MPUAT, Udaipur, during 2018 with a view to record fauna associated with lac insect in the seven districts of Southern Rajasthan; assessing the botanicals and insecticide molecules for safety against lac insect and efficacy against predators of lac insect. The study revealed that peepal, Ficus religiosa (Linn.) was recorded as most predominant natural host for the natural prevalence of lac insect. Fauna associated with lac insect represented by Eublemma amabilis, Pseudohytopa pulverea, Chrysopa sp; primary parasitoid belonging to families Encyrtidae, Eulophidae and Hyper parasitoid belonging to family Braconidae. The maximum natural enemies were recorded from family Encyrtidae. Predator E. amabilis had maximum mean relative density among all predators, whereas, parasitoids belonging to family Encyrtidae was the most blatant parasitoid among all. Predators, E. amabilis and P. pulverea emerged till the sixth week of sample storage whereas Chrysopa sp. was recorded only during second and third week. Primary parasitoids were recorded to emerge from the samples till the fourth week of the storage. Among the insecticides, the most effective treatment was spinosad 2.5 EC against predators viz., E. amabilis and P. pulverea with 84.85 and 78.95 mean per cent reduction in the population over control, respectively. Application of spinosad 2.5 EC was also recorded as the most effective treatment in terms of survival percentage of lac insect. Emamectin benzoate 5 SG was found next effective treatment, whereas, Neem oil was found least effective treatment in reducing the population of predators of lac insect as well as in terms of survival percentage of lac insect.
