Abstract
The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of thermal conditioning on blood pH in native chicken Aseel (ASL), Naked Neck (NN) and its cross variety such as Aseel x Nandanam chicken-4 (ARW) and Naked neck x Nandanam broiler-3 (NNB3). Chicks from four varieties were divided into control (C; 28±1°C) and heat exposed (H; 39±1º C for 2 hours during 0-2 and 5-6 weeks of age). Chicks from H group (HE) and chicks from control group (CE) were exposed to 39±1°C for 4 hours daily on 12th week of age. On 14th, 42nd and 84th day, blood was withdrawn and pH was measured. On 14th and 42nd day, blood pH was significantly (P<0.01) high in H group in all the four varieties. However, CE group chicks had significantly (P<0.05) high blood pH (Respiratory alkalosis) on 84th day, compared to H group. Based on the results, it can be concluded that early thermal conditioning develops heat resistance in later part of life.
