Abstract
ABSTRCT
A field experiment was conducted at the College of Agriculture,
Bheemarayanagudi, University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur, on deep black loamy
soil during rabi 2011-12 under drought condition and the laboratory experiment was
carried out at the department of Seed Science and Technology, College of Agriculture,
Raichur, University of Agricultural Science, Raichur, to study the performance of maize
inbreds NEI 92202B (Female) and HS-4 (Male) with three different planting ratios and
three different planting geometry. In the present investigation on maize hybrids with
three different planting ratios like 3:1, 4:1 and 5:1 and three different planting geometry
viz., 60 cm x 20 cm, 75 cm x 20 cm and 90 cm x 20 cm. The experiment was laid out in a
two factorial randomized completely block design with 9 treatments replicated thrice.
Among the different planting ratio and planting geometry, higher hybrid seed
yield (54.07 q/ ha) was recorded in 5:1planting ratio with combination of 60 cm x 20 cm
planting geometry and other yield contributing parameters viz., cob weight (168.67 g),
number of seeds per row (43.67), number of seed rows per cob (15.00) and number of
seeds per cob (654) but highest cob length (17.67 cm) was recorded in 4:1 planting ratio
with combination of 90 cm x 20 cm spacing and similarly thousand seed weight (223 g)
and seed recovery percent (78.99) was recorded maximum in planting ratio of 3:1 with
the combination of 90 cm x 20 cm spacing.
Whereas the seed quality parameters were non-significant. However, among the
different treatments numerically highest root length (22.67 cm) and seedling vigour
index (3200) were recorded in planting ratio of 4:1 with the combination of 75 cm x 20
cm of planting geometry.
The economic analysis indicated that the higher gross return (432560.00), net
return (398739.00) and B: C ratio (11.78) was recorded in 5:1 planting ratio with
combination of 60 cm x 20 cm.
