Abstract
An experiment “Studies on combined effect of phosphate solubilizing bacteria and nitrifying bacteria on growth and yield of Babchi (Psoralea corylifolia L.) in calcareous soil” was carried out to study the effect of Phosphate solubilizing bacteria and nitrifying bacteria on growth and yield parameters of babchi. The present research work was conducted during kharif of 2016-17, the Babchi seeds for pot culture experiment were collected from the All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Medicinal, Aromatic Plants and Betelvine, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri. The nitrifying bacteria were isolated from calcareous soil, collected from PGI Farm of MPKV, Rahuri on selective ACNB media defined by Alexander and Clark (1965). These three isolates of nitrifying bacteria were further characterize morphologically, physiologically and biochemically. The morphologically all the nitrifying bacterial isolates were whitish yellow in colour, circular, rod shaped, motile, gram negative, concave with entire margin except isolate-II. Which was spreading type, lobed and convex. All the three isolates shown positive reaction to catalase test, oxidase test, indole production test, urease test and nitrate reduction test while negative reaction to methyl red test.
