Abstract
The occurrence of coccidian infection was significantly higher in young lambs and kids than in adults at Mecheri Sheep Research Station, Pottaneri, Tamil Nadu. There was a negative correlation between oocysts per gram (OPG) levels and age of animals. Mixed infections comprising of two to four species were found and the species identified were Eimeria ahsata, E. crandallis, E. intricata, E. ovina, E. avinoidalis and E. parva in sheep and E. alijevi, E. arloingi, E. christenseni and E. ninakohlyakimovae in goats. E. ahsata in sheep and E. arloingi in goats were the most predominant eimerian species present.
