Abstract
A two and half year old Holstein Friesian crossbred cow was brought to the Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu with the history of nodules over the skin of the left neck. The nodules were blackish, irregularly circular, rough, elevated and firm. A piece of tissue was collected and processed for histopathological examination. Histopathologically, the nodule was unencapsulated, well differentiated and contained multiple keratin-filled cysts lined by basaloid cells forming variable sized islands. The basal cells have vesicular, hyperchromatic and pleomorphic nuclei. The mitotic figures were present in minimal numbers. The centre of islands was filled with multilayered lamellar to amorphous keratinous substances. The centre of the each islands showed matrical transition. Few of the islands formed a large cyst filled by keratinous debris. The periphery of the cystic variant is rimed by thickened basal cell layer. Based on histopatholgical findings, the case was diagnosed as trichoepithelioma.
