Abstract
The extensive and indiscriminate use of anthelmintics for control of gastrointestinal nematodes (GIN) in small ruminants had resulted in emergence of anthelmintic resistant nematodes throughout the world (Waller 1994) and has become a major practical problem (Taylor et al. 2002). in lndia, among the various GIN, the development of resistance strains of Haemonchus contortus was reported in different agro-climatic Zones (Singh at al. 1992, Gill 1993, grivastava er al. 1995). However, scanty information is available on the multiple anthelmintic resistance in abroad (Chandrawathani 2003) and in lndia (Gill 1996, Swarnkar er al. 1999). The present communication reports the emergence of a multiple anthelmintic resistance in gastrointestinal nematodes from Mecheri sheep in an organized farm in Tamil Nadu
