Abstract
A study on traditional Akola print of Rajasthan and developing jacket design through it. The earliest recorded history revealed that man decorated the fabric surface perhaps his clothing decorated first, than the other items necessary to his existence. India is rich in cultural heritage and its traditional Embroidery and Printing work is a great source of inspiration for apparel decoration. In Rajasthan many styles of printing are famous like wooden block printing, screen printing, brass block painting etc. In this study researcher used Akola block printed fabric. A questionnaire was developed by the researcher to know about the basic and specific information about Akola printing. Ten Jackets designs were developed on paper to select the best five designs (by panel of experts) for development of value added Jackets using five different techniques i.e. Quilting, Patch work, Applique work, Hand embroidery and mirror work. A five point rating Performa and a questionnaire was given to 20 market personals to find out acceptability and market potential of the developed Jackets. The major outcomes were as follows. 3 1. The developed/modified designs were highly appreciated by the respondents and market persons as shown by their higher acceptability (above 75 percentage for each Jacket) 2. The cost of developed Jacket was found very adequate and have enough market potential. Thus, it is concluded that developed Jackets, being inspired from traditional block printing and Hand work like Hand embroidery, Patch work, Applique work, Quilting , mirror work etc. were found totally fresh and unique by the respondents and consumers.
