Abstract
Integrated Management of Root Rot of Chilli (Capsicum annuum L.)
Caused by Rhizoctonia solani (Kuhn.)
Rajendra Prasad Jat* Dr. R. N. Bunker The present study was undertaken on integrated management of root rot of
chilli caused by Rhizoctonia solani (Kuhn). This is widely prevalent in moderate to
high mortality in Udaipur, Rajasthan.
Surveys were carried out during kharif 2017 in 10 villages of Udaipur district
viz., Kanpur, Lakhawali, Thur, Madar, Nai, Kailashpuri, Idana, Jindoli, Iswal and
Kurabad to know root rot severity and incidence in chilli. In the surveyed villages the
per cent mortality was ranged from 19.35 - 39.50 %. The maximum and minimum
disease incidence was recorded in Kanpur and Iswal, respectively.
Root rot pathogen R. solani was isolated from diseased chilli plants showing
root rot symptoms collected from farmer’s field of different chilli growing villages
and their pathogenicity was confirmed by growing in pathogen inoculated pots.
Six fungicides were evaluated at 50, 100, 250 and 500 ppm concentrations,
against R. solani in-vitro resulted that Carbendazim found most effective with 100 %
inhibition of R. solani growth at all concentrations. The other fungicides showed
variations in sensitivity against the pathogen. Similarly four biocontrol agents were
also evaluated against R. solani. Among biocontrol agents resident isolate of
Trichoderma viride (T-5) was found most effective against R. solani in dual culture
technique.
Integration of Carbendazim as seedling treatment (SA) + T. viride (SA) +
Neem cake resulted in significantly lowest plant mortality with (5.99 %) over their
individual application. It would therefore help to work out integrated management
strategy to reduce indiscriminate use of fungicides to reduce the chance of
development of resistance against fungicides.
