Abstract
The study of grafting and budding success under In-situ and Ex-situ condition using six varieties of ber as scion material and Ziziphus mauritiana var. rotundifolia as a rootstock was carried out at Department of Fruit Science, Kittur Rani Channamma College of Horticulture, Arabhavi during 2015-2016. Six varieties of ber namely Chhuhara, Dandan, Gola, Meharun, Sannaur-2, Umran were propagated through two different methods viz., softwood wedge grafting and chip budding. Among the propagation methods In-situ chip budding recorded highest graft height (40.27 cm), graft girth (1.36 cm) and number of leaves (41.50) whereas, softwood wedge grafting showed highest graft success (85.55 %) and graft survival (85.05 %). Among the interaction of propagation and varieties, In-situ chip budding of Dandan showed maximum graft height (45.66 cm), graft girth (1.60 cm), number of leaves (44.66) whereas, softwood wedge grafting of Umran observed highest per cent graft success (98.33 %) and per cent graft survival (93.66 %). Soft wood wedge grafting of Gola and Chhuhara recorded minimum graft success (72.00 %) and graft survival (71.66 %) respectively. Ex-situ softwood wedge grafting noticed highest graft height (41.37 cm), graft girth (1.12 cm), number of leaves (37.66) and survival (86.66 %). The graft success showed non-significant difference in propagation methods. Among the interactions of propagation and varieties, softwood wedge grafting of Dandan recorded maximum graft height (48.43 cm), graft girth (1.36 cm), number of leaves (42.00) and graft survival (93.66 %) whereas, the highest graft success (87.33 %) was observed in chip budding of Sannaur-2. The minimum graft height (22.66 cm), graft girth (0.63 cm), number of leaves (22.00) was noticed in chip budding of Umran at 90 days after grafting, while soft wood wedge grafting of Sannaur-2 and chip budding of Meharun showed minimum graft success (58.33 %) and graft survival (77.33 %) respectively.
