Abstract
The present investigation was undertaken to screen 20 genotypes of Cucumis melo for drought tolerance. Water stress was induces by giving 10% PEG treatment to grow Cucumis melo seedlings in plastic pots/ bags containing vermiculite, after 12 days of germination. All the measurements in control and water stress treated plants were taken after 12 days of treatment. The 10% PEG induced water stress caused a significant decrease in the root length, shoot length, root fresh weight and chlorophyll content. The activity of enzymes (GPX, APX, CAT and SOD) increased in all the genotypes under water stress.
