Abstract
The present investigation was carried out to estimate genetic variability, heritability, genetic advance, correlation, path analysis, and standard heterosis for yield and yield attributing characters in pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R.Br.] hybrids under hyper arid conditions. These hybrids were evaluated in augmented design during kharif 2014 at ARS, Bikaner. The experimental material comprised of 120 test hybrids along with 3 standard check hybrids of pearl millet. Thus, total number of entries was 123 hybrids. The checks were replicated eight times for eight blocks. Each block comprised of 15 test hybrid and 3 check hybrids. Analysis of variance indicated that sufficient amount of genetic variability was present among the hybrids and checks for all characters used in the study. Among all the characters, high GCV and PCV were observed for seed yield per plant (g), biological yield per plant (g), number of effective tillers per plant and harvest index (%). Aggregately high GCV, heritability and genetic advance as per cent of mean found for seed yield per plant (g), biological yield per plant (g), harvest index (%) and number of effective tillers per plant. Therefore, selection for these characters would also be effective.
