Abstract
ABSTRACT
The present investigation entitled “Studies on integrated weed management in
turmeric (Curcuma longa L)” was carried out with cv Palam Lalima and the experiment was
laid out in RCBD with three replications at Vegetable Research Farm, Department of
Vegetable Science, Dr YSPUHF, Nauni, Solan (HP) during kharif 2017. The ten treatments
fb two HW) and T10: Weedy check (Un-weeded). The observations were recorded on weed
flora of experimental plot, weed density (No/m2), weed dry matter (g/m2) and weed control
efficiency (%) at 45 DAP, 75 DAP and at harvest; and on yield per plant (g), per plot (kg),
rhizome length (cm), rhizome breadth (cm), number of primary rhizomes, plant height (cm),
plant girth (cm), number of tillers per plant, number of leaves per plant, leaf length (cm), leaf
width (cm), leaf area index, specific gravity (g/cc), dry rhizome recovery (%), essential oil
(%), oleoresin content (%) and total curcuminoid content (%). Analysis of variance showed
significant differences for all of the characters studied except specific gravity, dry rhizome
recovery (%) and oleoresin content (%). It was concluded that in turmeric cv Palam Lalima
integrated weed management with application of pre-emergence weedicide Metribuzin (0.7 kg
ai/ha) followed by mulch (10 t/ha) followed by one hand weeding (75 DAP) gave maximum
weed control efficiency (95.92%) and thereby produced better quality fresh rhizome yield of
251.42 q/ha, with net returns of Rs 5,18,480 and B : C ratio of 2.20.
