Abstract
The present investigations entitled “Effect of organic manures on growth and yield of Holy
Basil (Ocimum sanctum L.)” was carried out under polyhouse during winter season of 2015 at
Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Block of VCSG Uttarakhand University of Horticulture and Forestry,
Bharsar, Pauri - Garhwal Uttarakhand.
The treatments were consisted of three level of organic manure (FYM 24 T/ha, Litter 24 T/ha
and Vermicompost 9 T/ha) and four levels of their combinations (Farmyard Manure 12T/ha +
Vermicompost 4.5 T/ha, Litter 12 T/ha + Vermicompost 4.5 T/ha, Farmyard Manure 12 T/ha+ Litter
12 T/ha and Farmyard Manure 8 T/ha + Litter 8 T/ha + Vermicompost 3 T/ha) were replicated thrice in
a spacing of (30cm×30 cm) in a plot size 1.2 m × 1.2 m. The experiment was laid down with
RBD. One month old seedlings were transplanted on the last week of August in polyhouse. Most of
the growth parameters viz., plant height (cm), number of branches, number of leaves, plant spread
(cm), leaf surface area, leaf fresh and dry weight (q/ha) of Ocimum sanctum L.
They were significantly higher under Farmyard Manure + Litter + Vermicompost 8 T/ha + 8
T/ha + 3 T/ha application at 90 days after transplanting. Soil physico-chemical properties viz., Bulk
density, Particle density, pH, EC, organic carbon and available nitrogen were significantly higher
under Farmyard Manure + Litter + Vermicompost 8 T/ha + 8 T/ha + 3 T/ha application after harvest
stage.
