Abstract
Randomly selected 200 college girls, 100 each from metropolitan city
(Aurangabad) non metropolitan town (Parbhani) were chosen and were
personally interviewed based on structured cum open ended survey
schedule. All the college girls from both the selected places were
unmarried and belonged to the age group of 18 - 23 yrs. Majority of
their parents were middle aged, college educated and had monthly income
Rs. 10,000 & above. Almost all the college girls of metropolitan city and
non metropolitan town were aware of adoption of child, cohabitation life
style and exclusively religious or saintly life style for leading life. Ninety
five percent of them from both the places expressed favourable views
about child adoption by giving valid reasons. On the other hand, 87 - 96
percent college girls of metropolitan city and non metropolitan town
reported unfavourable views about adoption of cohabitation life style for
leading life by stating many ill effects of it on cohabitating partners,
family and society. Almost similar percentage (89 - 98%) of college girls
also expressed unfavourable views for adoption of only religious or
saintly life style for leading life stating that it is an unproductive life style
and just wasting of life. Overall a very few significant differences were
noted in the awareness, views and the reasons reported by the college
girls of metropolitan city and non metropolitan town.
