Ovulatory Response of the First Follicular Wave Growing and Regressing Phase Follicle For GnRH Administration in Cyclic Buffaloes

Abstract
The aim of present study was to determine the ovulatory response of growing and regressing phase of the fi rst follicular wave after GnRH injection in cyclic buffaloes. Follicular dynamics were studied using ultrasonography in six graded Murrah buffaloes for two consecutive oestrous cycles. Out of twelve normal cycles studied, 58.33 percent had two waves, and 41.69 percent had three waves. The duration of the growth phase of the fi rst wave dominant follicle in two-wave and three-wave oestrous cycles was 8.00±1.34 days and 6.40±0.92 days, and the regression phase was 10.00±0.96 days and 8.00±1.18 days respectively. In Murrah graded buffaloes, day 6 and day 10 of the oestrous cycle were considered as the growth phase and the regression phase of the fi rst wave dominant follicle. The buffaloes used to study normal oestrous cycle were administrered GnRH on the growth phase and the regression phase of the fi rst wave dominant follicle. The percentage of buffaloes ovulating in the growth phase was 75.00, and that in the regression phase was 16.67. It was concluded, that the ovulatory response was higher in the growth phase of the fi rst wave dominant follicle after GnRH injection.
