Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Effect of soil and foliar application of zinc on growth, yield and quality of sweet orange var. Nucellar (Citrus sinensis L.Osbeck)” was conducted in a well-established sweet orange orchard with 7 year old Nucellar Orange trees planted at 6 × 6 m spacing having uniform growth and productivity at the sweet orange research station, Badnapur,Dist- Jalna, during 2017-18 with the object to study the effect of soil and foliar application of zinc on growth, yield and quality of fruits. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design (RBD) with twelve treatments replicated thrice. The treatment comprised of control i.e.(T1), Soil application of ZnSO4@100gm+RDF(T2), Soil application of ZnSO4@150gm+RDF (T3), Soil application of ZnSO4@200gm+RDF (T4), Soil application ofZnSO4@250gm+RDF(T5), Foliar spray of ZnSO4@0.50%+RDF (T6), Foliar spray of ZnSO4@0.75%+RDF(T7), Foliar spray of ZnSO4 @1%+RDF(T8), Soil application of ZnSO4@100gm+ Foliar spray of ZnSO4@ 0.50%(T9), Soil application of ZnSO4@150gm+Foliar spray of ZnSO4@0.50% (T10), Soil application of ZnSO4@100gm+ Foliar spray of ZnSO4@0.75%(T11), Soil application ofZnSO4 @150gm+ Foliar spray of ZnSO4@0.75% (T12). The observations on growth, yield and quality parameters were recorded. The results were revealed that, there were significant variations in growth, yield and quality of sweet orange due to application soil and foliar application of zinc. The values of vegetative growth parameters stem girth, plant spread and number of branches per tree showed the non- significant effect by treatments and plant height and canopy volume no.of flowers per branch and fruit drop showed significant effect by the treatments. The height of tree, canopy volume showed most effective in T10 (Soil application ofZnSO4@150gm+ Foliar spray ofZnSO4@0.50%) and all treatment superior over the control except (T1and T4) and minimum effective in T1 i.e. control. The quality parameters like reducing sugar, non-reducing sugar, acidity, T.S.S, ascorbic acid, pH, total sugar, are most effective in T10 (Soil application ofZnSO4@150gm+ Foliar spray of ZnSO4@0.50%) followed by treatment T12(Soil application ofZnSO4 @150gm+ Foliar spray of ZnSO4@0.75%)and T11(Soil application of ZnSO4@100gm+ Foliar spray of ZnSO4@0.75%)and minimum effective in T1 (control).the physical parameter of fruit like average diameter of fruit most effective in T10 (Soil application ofZnSO4@150gm+ Foliar spray of ZnSO4@0.50%) followed by treatment T11(Soil application of ZnSO4@100gm+ Foliar spray of ZnSO4@0.75%) and T12(Soil application ofZnSO4 @150gm+ Foliar spray of ZnSO4@0.75%) and minimum effective in T1 (control).the yield parameters number of fruit per tree and weight of fruit per tree, weight of one fruit and weight of five fruit were noticed maximum in T10 (Soil application ofZnSO4@150gm+ Foliar spray of ZnSO4@0.50%) followed by treatment T11(Soil application of ZnSO4@100gm+ Foliar spray of ZnSO4@0.75%) and T12(Soil application ofZnSO4 @150gm+ Foliar spray of ZnSO4@0.75%) and minimum effective in T1 (control).application of T10 (Soil application ofZnSO4@150gm+ Foliar spray of ZnSO4@0.50%) improved economics in sweet orange. Hence, it can be concluded that, the soil and foliar application of ZnSO4such as Soil application ofZnSO4@150gm+ Foliar spray of ZnSO4@0.50% followed by Soil application of ZnSO4@100gm+ Foliar spray of ZnSO4@0.75% along with recommended dose of fertilizers were most effective than the control i.e.T1 in all the parameters of sweet orange.
