Abstract
An investigation was carried out to know the performance of African marigold genotypes with respect to various morphological and yield characters at Floriculture and Landscaping unit of Kittur Rani Channamma College of Horticulture, Arabhavi, UAS, Dharwad during December 2007-December 2008. The result indicated that the genotypes. AMC-10, AMC-13, AMC-14 and AMC-17 performed better for growth (plant height, stem girth and plant spread). The genotype Namdhari Cracker Jack Mix was dwarfest, Marigold African Giant had less stem girth and AMC-12 was least spreading as compared to all other genotypes. The number of primary branches and chlorophyll content were more in genotypes AMC-8, AMC-7, AMC-14 and AMC-15. `The genotype Vigro Hybrid Orange was earliest to initiate flower buds, took least days for first flowering and for 50 per cent flowering. However, the flowering duration was more in the genotypes AMC-8, and AMC-11. The late flowering habit with less duration of flowering was noticed in genotype AMC-18. The fresh weight of flowers, flower diameter and yield pre plant were maximum in the genotypes AMC-6, AMC-7, AMC-8, AMC-19 and AMC-20. The flowers of the same genotypes were found to have more shelf life and xanthopyll content. Genotypes AMC-12 and AMC-19 were tolerant to Alternaria leaf spot whereas, AMC-6 and AMC-8 showed least damage by thrips.
