Abstract
A field experiment was conducted during winter seasons of 2015-2016 at the Research Farm of Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh (India) to study the effect of various nitrogen and zinc treatments on growth and yield, nutrient concentration, nutrient uptake, indices and economics. The experiment was The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with four types of nitrogen management viz. N1: 0 kg N ha-1 (control),N2: 120 kg N ha-1. [50% RDN at sowing+25% of RDN OF Z 20 (Crown Root Initiation stage) + at Z 41 stage (flag leaf just visible)], N3: 150 kg N ha-1. [50% of RDN at sowing+ 25% of RDN at Z 20 (CRI stage) + 25% of RDN at Z 41 stage (flag leaf just visible)] and N4: 180 kg N ha-1 [50% of RDN at sowing+ 25% of RDN at Z 20 (CRI stage) + 25% of RDN at Z 41 stage (flag leaf just visible) and four types of zinc management i.e.Z1: 0 kg Zn ha-1 (control),Z2: 2.0 kg zinc ha-1 at sowing +0.50% ZnSO4 spray at Z 30 (Panicle Initiation) + 0.50% Zn SO4 spray at Z 75 (medium milking), Z3: 2.0 kg zinc ha-1 at sowing +0.50% ZnSO4 spray at Z 52 (20% spike visible) + 0.50% Zn SO4 spray at Z 60 (anthesis) and Z4: 2.0 kg zinc ha-1 at sowing +0.50% ZnSO4 spray at Z 60 (anthesis) + 0.50% Zn SO4 spray at Z 85 (soft mid dough) replicated thrice. The result showed thatthe result also showed that the most suitable N application may be at N3 with a grain yield of 4.11 t ha-1 and Benefit: Cost ratio of 2.48 and maximum zinc content (42.10 ppm).Application of Z4would be economical for with higher grain yield of 3.73 t ha-1 and for maximum zinc content in grain(42.62 ppm).Interaction effect of nitrogen and zinc for higher grain yield and zinc content in grain with application of N3Z4and it would require some more investigation.
