Abstract
Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) varieties were evaluated for growth, seed
yield and drying quality of herbage at Department of Plantation, Spices, Medicinal and
Aromatic Crops, Kittur Rani Channamma College of Horticulture, Arabhavi during
2012-2013.
Among the different varieties evaluated, maximum drying ratio was recorded in
RCr-480. Highest rehydration ratio was recorded in DWD-3. In fresh herbage the
highest L* value and b* value were recorded in RCr-446 and highest a* value was
observed in RCr-41. Highest L* value of dried herbage was observed in RCr-684 and
highest a* value was recorded in RCr-435. Among sensory characteristics the highest
score for colour and overall acceptability was observed in RCr-435 and highest score
for flavor and aroma was recorded in DWD-3.
Highest plant height was recorded in CO-2 (75.67 cm), while maximum number
of leaves was recorded in RCr-41 at harvest. CO-3 variety recorded maximum primary
and secondary branches and variety RCr-480 recorded highest fresh weight and dry
weight.
DWD-3 variety recorded highest umbels per plant, umbellets per umbel, seeds
per umbellet, thousand seed weight, harvest index and least days taken for 50 per cent
flowering and for harvest. CO-1 variety recorded highest seed yield per hectare (3.38 q)
and least mean aphid index (1.67/plant). Variety RCr-480 observed highest herbage
yield (14.58 g) and oil content (0.40%). Highest oil content was also recorded in RCr-
436 (0.40%)
