Abstract
flora associated with ten varieties ofbengalgram seeds viz., Annigeri,K-850,JG—62,GL-769,ICCV—10,BG—276,DCP92-3,KWR—108,IPC 94—19 and IPC 94-37 includesAlternaria sp.,Aspergillus niger, Aflavus, Ascochyta rabiei, Botrytis cinerea, Colletotrichum sp., Curvularia lunata, Fusariumsp.,PenicilliumSp.andRhizopusstolonifer.Bothagarplateand blottermethods were employed for the isolation ofmycoflora. Agarplate method was found better in yielding maximum number ofoffungi than blottermethod.Inboththemethods,unsterilizedseedyieldedmorenumber fungiofthansterilizedseed.Amongthetenfungitestedtostudytheeffect ongerminationin vivo,Alternaria sp.,Ascochytarabiei andFusariunsp. causedconsiderablereductioninpercentageofgerminationandshootand rootlengthconsiderably. Among the five fungicides tested by poison food technique, CarbendazimatallconcentrationandCaptanat1500ppmwereeffective againstAlta.nariasp.CarbendaziminhibitedthegrowthofAscochytarabiei atallconcentrationsWhileThiramat500and1500ppmwaseffectiveagainst Fusariumsp. Outoffiveplantextracttested,Azadirachtaindicawasmosteffective andinhibitedthegrowthofAlternariasp.,AscochytarabieiandFusariumsp toagreaterextent.
